Running was a key element of my journey to middle-age athleticism. While never a gifted childhood athlete, and after two decades of sedentary consumption, I committed to complete my first triathlon, and running was the key.
I Was Not Always A Runner — Or Even An Athlete, For That Matter!
I always hated running, after a Presidential Fitness Challenge in grade school.
Then, some other stuff happened. Prophesying a later adult life with strokes and heart attacks as a probable future, I resolved to lose weight and get healthy.
I’ve overcome shin splints, knee pain, and twisted ankles with physical therapy, resistance training, orthotics, posture correction, neuromuscular re-education (no kidding!), stretching, Triggerpoint therapy, Active Release Therapy, massage therapy, and running form training.
I Created A Lasting Change
With assistance from coaches, I’ve completed dozens of races, including 5 marathons, obstacle course races, and triathlons. I’ve even been on my age group’s podium twice!
I’m just warming up.
Certainly, noone needs to commit what I’ve committed to running, but I’ve put a lot in, and I’ve gotten a lot back.
Furthermore, as a former sedentary, fat, alcoholic, non-athlete, I know anyone can do this. You can do this, too.
