The Real Problem

The certification isn't the issue.
The story you're telling is.

You've earned the credential. You've studied the frameworks. You've been coordinating complex work, managing stakeholders, and owning delivery outcomes — sometimes for years — without the title to prove it. And yet hiring managers keep passing you over for candidates with less real-world experience than you have.

The problem isn't your experience. It's that you're still presenting yourself as an operations professional who wants to become a PM — instead of a PM who's been doing the work all along.

  • Your resume reads like an ops resume, not a PM resume — even though the work is the same
  • You struggle to answer "tell me about a time you managed a project" with confidence
  • You're applying to PM roles but getting screened out before the interview
  • You can't quite articulate why your background is relevant — so you apologize for it instead
  • You keep getting asked "do you have direct PM experience?" — and you don't know how to answer

This isn't a skills problem. It's an identity and positioning problem. And it's fixable in a single, focused session.

Section 01
Elevator Pitch — 60 Seconds, Spoken

Built and practiced out loud in session. Use when someone asks "what do you do?" — networking events, interview openers, LinkedIn voice notes.

I'm a project manager and program leader with 26 years of experience delivering complex, high-stakes initiatives in financial services and technology. I specialize in enterprise programs with aggressive timelines, significant stakeholder complexity, and real consequences for getting it wrong. I've led delivery at Charles Schwab — including a program that served 6 million clients during the TD Ameritrade merger — and I currently run a scaled agile release train at the Texas Department of Agriculture, where our systems support over a billion meals a year. I also coach PM professionals who are doing this work without the title or positioning to prove it. That's the work I've always loved — building things that matter and building the teams that build them.
Section 02
PM Identity Statement — Written

Use as the opening paragraph of your LinkedIn About section and as the basis for cover letters.

I'm a project manager and program leader with 26 years of delivery experience across financial services, technology, and government. I specialize in complex, multi-stakeholder programs in enterprise environments — particularly where there are aggressive timelines, high organizational visibility, and significant consequences for getting it wrong. My background spans both waterfall and agile delivery, and I'm equally comfortable leading structured program governance or running a scaled agile release train. I've worked at the program and portfolio level at Charles Schwab, LPL Financial, PNC Financial Services, and Oracle, and I currently serve as Agile Program Manager and Release Train Engineer at the Texas Department of Agriculture, leading a 40-person ART delivering systems that support over one billion meals annually.

Section 03
Core PM Competencies

Use as the framing for resume bullets, LinkedIn About section, and interview answers.

  • Enterprise program delivery — Leading cross-functional, multi-vendor programs from initiation through go-live in high-stakes, regulated environments; managing scope, schedule, budget, and stakeholder alignment simultaneously
  • Scaled agile execution — Operating as Release Train Engineer and Agile Program Manager in SAFe environments; coordinating work across multiple teams, managing PI planning, and aligning delivery to business objectives
  • Executive stakeholder management — Translating complex technical work into clear business language for C-suite audiences; managing upward under pressure without losing the room
  • Crisis recovery and risk mitigation — Parachuting into troubled programs, rapidly assessing root cause, and restoring confidence and forward momentum when delivery has stalled
  • Cross-functional team leadership — Building alignment and accountability across teams that don't share a reporting structure; creating shared ownership in matrixed, distributed, multi-time-zone environments
  • Delivery at scale — Leading programs that affect millions of end users, processing billions of transactions, and coordinating dozens of contributing teams simultaneously
Section 04
Career Narrative

Use as the basis for your LinkedIn About section and your answer to "tell me about yourself" in long-form interviews.

I came up as a working project manager — not someone who studied PM and then practiced it, but someone who got dropped into complex delivery situations early and had to figure out how to make them work. Over 26 years, those situations got progressively larger, more complex, and higher-stakes.

At Charles Schwab, I led the team that delivered the Trader's Dashboard for the TD Ameritrade–Schwab merger — a program that served 6 million clients and required coordinating delivery across one of the most watched integration projects in financial services history. I also coordinated the largest mobile app release in Schwab's history. These were not small-team, low-visibility efforts. They were programs where the right answer mattered, the timeline was non-negotiable, and the number of stakeholders with opinions was significant.

Before and alongside that work, I delivered programs at LPL Financial, PNC Financial Services, Dun & Bradstreet, and Oracle — across four continents, across waterfall and agile methodologies, and across industries with very different definitions of "on time" and "good enough." I've run programs with external vendors, managed consulting teams, and operated inside organizations where I was the person the president's office called when something needed to be fixed.

What I've learned is that delivery isn't primarily a technical problem. It's a relationship and communication problem. The organizations that deliver consistently are the ones where the right people are having the right conversations at the right time — and where the PM is making sure that happens. That's the work I've always done.

Section 05
Target Role Profile

Use this to filter job descriptions and focus your application energy.

Best fit environments
  • Enterprise organizations (500+ employees) in financial services, technology, or regulated industries
  • Programs with cross-functional complexity — multiple teams, vendors, or business units
  • Organizations running or transitioning to scaled agile delivery (SAFe, LeSS, or equivalent)
  • Situations requiring both delivery rigor and executive stakeholder management
Roles where this background wins
  • Senior Program Manager / Director of Program Management
  • Release Train Engineer or Agile Program Manager
  • VP / Head of PMO at a mid-to-large enterprise
  • Strategic initiative lead in financial services or technology
Roles to avoid
  • Single-team scrum master or delivery-only agile coach (underleveled)
  • Greenfield startup without enterprise governance appetite
  • Pure product roles without delivery ownership
Section 06
Top 5 Interview Answers

Built from your actual experience and practiced out loud before you leave the session.

Q1"Tell me about yourself."
→ Use the elevator pitch from Section 1. 60 seconds. Practiced until it sounds natural — not recited.
Q2"Walk me through a project you led from start to finish."
Situation: Charles Schwab was integrating TD Ameritrade — one of the largest brokerage mergers in US history. My program was the Trader's Dashboard, the primary client-facing interface for 6 million accounts. Task: Lead delivery across a cross-functional team under a timeline tied to a public merger commitment and regulatory milestones. Action: Established delivery cadence, managed stakeholder alignment across business and technology, coordinated dependency resolution across multiple parallel workstreams, and kept the program visible and moving when pressure from above increased. Result: Delivered on schedule. Coordinated the largest mobile app release in Schwab's history as part of the same program cycle.
The PM point: Multi-stakeholder, multi-team, non-negotiable deadline, 6-million-client impact. This is the scope I operate at comfortably.
Q3"Tell me about a time something went sideways. What did you do — and what was the measurable outcome?"
Situation: Brought in directly by the president's office to address software and infrastructure issues causing customer attrition and lost sales at an enterprise client. Task: Triage the problems, build cross-team alignment, and restore delivery momentum — fast, with high executive visibility. Action: Rapidly assessed root cause across multiple systems and teams, established clear ownership and accountability structures, worked directly with technical leads to unblock delivery, and communicated status to senior leadership in real time. Result: Issues resolved. Customer attrition arrested. The delivery manager credited the turnaround publicly.
The PM point: I don't just manage projects that are going well. I'm the person called when they aren't.
Q4"How do you manage stakeholders who aren't aligned?"
My approach starts before misalignment becomes a problem. I invest early in understanding what each stakeholder actually needs — not just what they say they want — and I map those needs to the program's success criteria before we're deep into delivery. When misalignment appears, I bring it into the open rather than managing around it. Most stakeholder conflict is either a communication gap or a priority conflict that nobody has named out loud yet. My job is to name it, create the space to resolve it, and keep the program moving while that happens.
Q5"Why are you making this transition / why do you want this role?"
I'm not making a transition — I've been a PM for 26 years. What I'm doing is being more intentional about the environment I work in and the level of impact I have. I've spent most of my career being handed difficult programs and making them work. I want to do that at an organization where the PM function is genuinely valued, where complexity is the norm rather than the exception, and where I can build something durable. This role fits that profile because [customized per role].
