Dylan Cornelius Coaching & Consulting

Your Career Journey: 9 levels from Striver to Liberated, organized into three development arcs. Personal Development includes Striver, Survivor, and Steward. Leadership Development includes Seeker, Strategist, and Leader. Management Development includes Thriver, Architect, and Liberated.

These nine levels form three arcs:

  1. Personal Development (Striver, Survivor, Steward) is inward-facing — self-discovery, basic self-management, and accountability. — Self-Mastery
  2. Leadership Development (Seeker, Strategist, Leader) moves from leading the self to leading one’s own direction to leading others — the Seeker stage is the deepest act of self-leadership, going inward to find clarity before leading outward. — Directed Leadership
  3. Management Development (Thriver, Architect, Liberated) is about managing at scale — sustaining mastery, building systems and structures, and ultimately managing full autonomy. — Leadership at Scale

The arc runs from self-mastery, to directed leadership, to leadership at scale.

🧭 SEEKERS

Capable, accomplished professionals in the gap between the life they were living and the one that feels true

Who They Are:

Mid-career professionals (32–55) whose life stopped matching who they believe themselves to be.

The presenting problem looks like career confusion, but the root is identity suspension — they are in the gap between the life they were living and one that feels true.

They arrive through a specific life disruption:

  • A layoff
  • A job they quit
  • A relationship that ended
  • A death
  • A body that said stop
  • Credentials rotting unused in a role far below their ability

They are not primarily looking for a new job.

Getting another version of what they just left is exactly what they’re trying to avoid.

What They Say:

  • “I’m in a process of reset and discovery” (Karen)
  • “I need to remind myself of who I am, what I was always really meant to do” (Omario)
  • “Did I get a masters degree to be stuck doing admin? No” (Ayeesha)
  • “Get out of my head” — said to Dylan after feeling immediately recognized and understood (George)
  • “I’ve been depressed. I need to find new purpose and reboot my career in some way” (Eric)
  • “I forgot who I am at my core”
  • “Something has to change — I just don’t know what”

Diagnostic Signal — The Avoidance Pattern:

Seekers often resist the obvious next step — not out of laziness, but because something in them knows repeating the last chapter is not the answer. When a capable, credentialed person avoids the obvious next move, they are likely a Seeker.

  • Karen was lying to her partner every morning about job searching — and not searching.
  • Eric was questioning whether he even wanted to do the same kind of work again.
  • Ayeesha physically couldn’t sit at a computer anymore.

What They Need:

Identity clarity before career strategy. They need to understand who they are and what they’re actually for before any tactical work makes sense. They need to be genuinely seen before they can act.

  1. Pattern recognition
  2. Blind spot identification
  3. A framework built on the double meaning of Relationship to Results:
    1. Changing their personal relationship with how and why they get results — through clarity of purpose, planning, action, and leadership (Innovation, Strategic Planning, Team Leadership, Continuous Improvement)
    2. Rethinking and redefining their relationship with others — becoming more thoughtful and strategic about the quality of their relationships, who those relationships serve, and how

Programs For Them:

Clarity Call (free) → Strategy Session (paid) → Relationship to Results (Part 1: Strategic Clarity Sprint / Part 2: Aligned Leadership Accelerator)

Real Examples:

Eric B. — Laid off from a Silicon Valley company; depressed and questioning everything; lost his passion five years earlier when a relationship in Los Angeles ended; six distinct careers; wanted purpose, community, and a life that matched his values.

Karen W. — 50-year-old Customer Success / PM professional; her new manager made her role unsustainable (50+ hours/week tracked from mid-February); returned from a well-earned vacation to hundreds of emails and zero accountability from leadership or peers — the breaking point; partner of seven years noticed how much more she was working; she quit April 16 with no next step ready; came in saying “I’m in a process of reset and discovery”; was avoiding job search every day.

George M. — Technologist at Schwab operating at senior staff level; his stated moonshot goal was finding a partner after being single for ten years — not a promotion; professionally capable but personally invisible and isolated; wanted recognition, fair compensation, and to be seen as a complete person.

Ayeesha K. — Masters in L&D, but restructuring left her doing IT tech support and admin; “Did I get a masters degree to be stuck doing admin? No”; physically couldn’t sit at a computer anymore; wanted to use her brain the way she wanted to.

Omario K. — Attorney, professor, multilingual consultant; abusive ex-partner just left him; history of bad bosses including a tyrant; held the family estate together through his father’s death as executor of a large real estate portfolio; “I need to remind myself of who I am, what I was always really meant to do.”

📊 STRATEGISTS

Currently employed, optimizing/upgrading, want more authority/money/credibility

Who They Are:

Successfully employed mid-career professionals who feel stuck, capped, or underleveled. NOT feeling undervalued—they’re respected—but they’re hitting invisible ceilings, stuck between paths (IC vs management), or watching their market value grow while compensation stagnates.

What They Say:

  • “I’ve been here 2+ years with no clear path up”
  • “I’m stuck choosing between IC and management tracks”
  • “I keep hearing ‘your day will come’ but nothing changes”
  • “I know I’m worth more but don’t know how to get it”
  • “I need execution help, not just strategy”

What They Need:

Strategic clarity about their next move, market intelligence, execution frameworks. They suffer from analysis paralysis—they think too much and act too little.

Programs For Them:

Get Your Best Job Ever ($3K-5K) → Innovation/Mindset modules (+$500 each)

Real Examples:

Vivek S. – Principal Solutions Architect, turning 40, stuck between IC and leadership paths, analysis paralysis
Kevin F., John, Carlo C. – Optimizing careers, want upgrade not transformation

⚠️ Critical Note:

“Undervalued” messaging repels Strategists. They don’t see themselves as victims. Use language like “successful but stuck,” “ready to optimize,” “breaking through the ceiling.”

🛡️ STEWARDS

Income-dependent, need job now, stability-focused, returning to same role

Who They Are:

People who NEED a job for financial survival. They’re not seeking transformation or optimization—they need tactical execution to get employed ASAP and return to stability. Often recently laid off or in urgent financial situations.

What They Say:

  • “I need a job NOW”
  • “I can’t afford to be unemployed much longer”
  • “Just help me get hired”
  • “I need the same role I had before”

What They Need:

Resume optimization, interview prep, LinkedIn strategy, networking tactics. Pure tactical execution, minimal coaching/transformation work.

Programs For Them:

Good Job Now (up to $1,997)

Real Examples:

Joe R., John, Cheeko

⚠️ De-Emphasized:

We’re de-emphasizing marketing to Stewards to focus resources on transformation clients. Still serve them, but not primary focus.

🎓 STRIVERS

New grads, 21-27, launching career, seeking first professional job

Who They Are:

Early-career professionals (NOT mid-career) launching their professional lives. Recent grads or career-switchers in their early 20s. Different market segment entirely from our core mid-career focus.

What They Say:

  • “How do I get my first real job?”
  • “I don’t have enough experience”
  • “What should I even be looking for?”
  • “I’m about to graduate”

What They Need:

Career launch tactics, professional identity development, first-job hunting strategies.

Programs For Them:

Good Job Now or Get Your Best Job Ever

Real Examples:

Neriah, Jake, Jack
Note: Jake’s father Scott bought for Jake (ideal model). Jack paid $6K from trust fund.

⚠️ De-Emphasized:

We’re de-emphasizing marketing to Strivers to focus on mid-career transformation work. Different messaging, different needs, different market.

🚪 QUITTERS

Want to EXIT employment entirely → entrepreneurship, retirement, sustainable lifestyle

Who They Are:

Mid-career professionals done with traditional employment. They want OUT—either to build their own business, retire early, or create a sustainable lifestyle that doesn’t depend on a boss. Often overlap with Seekers (burned out, seeking meaning) but their solution is exit, not optimization.

What They Say:

  • “I’m done working for other people”
  • “I want to build something of my own”
  • “I need an exit strategy that actually works”
  • “How do I leave without destroying my finances?”

What They Need:

Exit planning, entrepreneurship frameworks, financial bridge strategies, community of fellow builders. They need both tactical execution AND meaning-making.

Programs For Them:

Strategy Session → R2R/ALA → Community (ongoing support during transition)

Real Examples:

Eric B. (also Seeker) – Considering relaunching his business vs. taking a job
Karen W. (also Seeker) – Eventually became community manager, left traditional employment
Ayeesha K. (also Seeker) – Exploring entrepreneurship/independence
