- Finding your purpose in life: it’s fun and easy!
You got the diplomas and the good job. You work hard and you’re good at what you do. But still, you feel like something is missing or some part of you is left behind in all the hustle.
There’s a feeling that there must be something more. This can’t be all there is. You’re still young enough, you have enough time to have a bigger impact and make a bigger dent than you’ve made so far.
Does everything you read above feel relatable?
If so (and forgive what may seem a little “pie-in-the-sky”) it may be time to do some self-exploration, develop some more self-awareness, and determine a new way of living by finding your purpose in Life.
Finding your purpose in life begins with looking inward
What can help in finding your purpose in Life?
In the matter of unearthing what purpose you are living for, it’s important to connect with your inner self because the answer lies within you. You’ve known, or had hints about, your purpose in life, starting from your childhood.
Unfortunately, we often receive coaching, advice, or direction to ignore our inner voice and follow the directions and instructions that are given to us.
Nonetheless, only you can rediscover your purpose in life. It’s within you, and you can surface it by reactivating your creative thinking, memories, values, and goals in life.
Here are the four steps to finding your purpose in life
- Know your passion
Know what you love, what you like, and what you’d do even if you weren’t getting paid. When you begin to get authentic and comfortable with your passions, your satisfaction increases and you know you’re doing what you must. - Crush your fears
Another step for finding a purpose in Life is identifying your fears and learning to act despite them. At their essence, fears are nothing more than the words, feelings, and actions that negatively exclaim your thoughts.
Ultimately, fears are responsible for crushing the confidence inside you. Thus, listing fears and practicing acting despite them will help you reach new goals in Life. - Identify your values
Identify your core values. Not the ones your parents or the Scouts or your branch of military gave you, but really, your true, personal, self-identified values that elevate you to be and become the very best you know you can be. Your core values drive you and inspire you, and you can’t live with yourself when you’re acting inconsistently with them. - Identify your superpowers
There are some things you do better than almost anybody else. There are some things you’ll do that very few other people will do. In the intersection of these is your superpower. It’s not always obvious at first, but with some self-awareness it becomes inescapably obvious. Your superpowers are an obvious place to look as you are finding your purpose in life.
Finding your purpose in life is simple
There’s no rocket science. It’s nearly as simple as naming your favorite things, but actually it’s more fun. In the process, you’ll learn a lot about yourself. You’ll say some things that you may never have said before. And you’ll be more proud and confident than you’ve ever known yourself to be. You’ll know with certainty that you’ve never been more honest and more confident about who you are and what you stand for.
It’s just a matter of giving time and space to look through the clouds in the brain and look for the truth you’ve always known but too often overlooked or ignored.
